About Me
- Name: Ookpik
- Location: Michigan, United States
I began my interest in vernacular photography by a chance acquisition of over 10,000 negatives dating from the late 1920's through the early 1970's. Luckily, I knew what I had was something more than "someone's old pictures." This cache of old images became the impetus for me to create two Photoblogs: Ookpik’s Negativity and Mystery Ships Of The Great Lakes. Ookpik’s Negativity contains photos that I would like to know more about while Mystery Ships Of The Great Lakes features photos of ships that I am trying to identify.

ookpik - I'd be interested in your thoughts on the easiest (read cheapest) way to scan negatives on a regular scanner.
Hi Kurt,
You will need two more items that I’m sure you have.
1. A piece of glass smaller than the scanner glass but bigger than the negative.
2. A light source – a desk lamp works fine.
Step 1 – Remove or prop up the lid of the scanner.
Step 2 – Put the negative on the scanner glass.
Step 3 – Put the other piece of glass on top of the negative.
Step 4 – Shine the light from the light source on the negative.
Step 5 – Hit scan and try not move!
Good luck! I used this method with great success before I purchased the "proper" equipment.
Thanks!
